It is advisable to make copies of your passport, tickets, credit cards and travelers’ checks when visiting Cancun in Mexico. For US citizens, a certified state-issued birth certificate with a government issued photo ID such as a driving license is acceptable in the place of a valid passport.

Summer is the best time for families to visit this place. It is best to avoid traveling in early and late spring since you will have the spring break crowd coming in. Booking tickets and hotels in advance is advisable. Tourists can enjoy themselves at the beach or engage in various activities such as snorkeling, waterskiing, scuba diving, kayaking and fishing. Cancun is famous for its nightlife, clubs, and discos. You are sure to find a club for every taste. Cancun tour operators conduct private tours with flexible departures and itineraries to accommodate individual preferences and schedules.

U.S. dollars and travelers checks can be exchanged for Pesos. It is desirable to exchange US dollars at a bank or an exchange house for the best exchange rate. Paying with a credit card is another way to get a good exchange rate. There are ATM machines in the Cancun hotel zone, and a few in downtown Cancun.

Buses are the easiest and cheapest way to get around Cancun. Taxis run 24 hours a day and are plentiful. You should fix the fare the driver will charge you for your journey before getting into the taxi. Another way to move around is by renting a car.

For those who are interested in shopping, there are a number of shops and malls along the hotel zone. Cancun offers a vast selection of world-class culinary options to please even the most demanding palates. Under no circumstances should you drink tap water and it is wise to stick to the bottled variety. Tipping is common in Cancun and the average tips for waiters and servers are about 10-15%, depending on the service.
