Kylemore Abbey, Kylemore, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland Kylemore Abbey was originally built as a castle and private home in the late 17th century by wealthy politician Mitchell and Margaret Henry, from Manchester, England. One mile west of the main Abbey building are the 6-acre Victorian Walled Gardens, built at the same time as the construction of Kylemore Castle during the years 1867 and 1871.
